  • york (trade, capital of Danelaw, viking & christian religious tolerance)
  • scotland & ireland (farmland, easy access to europe, slave-trading)
  • iceland (fertile soil-volcanoes, uninhabited)
  • greenland (uninhabited, source of food & fur)
  • france (powerful, wealthy, christian centre, rivers for easy transport)
