• Hardrada won the battle, waiting at Stamford Brifge to receive money & hostages.

• Harold marched his troops from London to Stamford Bridge in 5 days, catching Hardrada’s army by surprise after they had been resting.
• Harold won the battle (Tostig, & Hardrada were killed) but he lost a significant amount of his army.

• 14th October 1066
• Harold arrived at Hastings during the night with 7,000 exhausted men.
• Tried to catch Norman’s by surprise but Norman scouts warned William.
• Harold & army went to the top of Senlac Hill.
• William ordered archers to fire at Harold’s army.
• Harold’s army came down from the hill to join the battle & an arrow hit Harold.
• After hearing he died, his army lost all discipline & were massacred by Normans.
• William had won.
