October 1936, 200 men marched to London because they lived in an area where unemployment was 70%. It raised a large awareness, however had little impact.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF ‘MAKING ENDS MEET’?
Many women had a constant source of stress as they worked long hours against the struggle of poverty whilst also looking after children and the home. Women struggled to make money last until the end of the month.

The first radio was built in 1922 and in 1926 came the BBC. Radio provided opportunity for people to enjoy themselves. By 1939 75% of families had a radio.

Offered escapism as most films were American and created a dream world. By 1939 there were over 4,000 cinemas in Britain.
WHAT HAPPENED TO DEVELOPING INDUSTRY?
As traditional industry declined, new industry emerged to take its place. in 1938, 2 million cars had been sold and by 1938, 9 million people had central electricity in their home.
