What caused the Korean War?

A

Greed from the North, who wanted total control over the entirety of Korea.

What ended the Korean war?

A

The new president of the USA didn’t want to continue with the Korean war and uncertainty over who would rule the USSR led to the agreement on peace.

Give an account of what happened during the Korean War.

A
  1. North invaded the South over greed and need for control.
  2. North successfully takes control of South in 4 months.
  3. UN intervene after the USA prompts them to do so and after the USSR is unable to vote otherwise ( as they were previously boycotting and at this point they still were).
  4. UN troops under General Mcarthur push south Korean troops all the way to the Chinese borders.
  5. China gets involved by sending 200,000 men to help southern troops to push the UN back to the 38th parallel, where both sides were in a stalemate.
  6. A change in leader for America and after the death of Stalin a peace settlement was signed, which resulted in both North and South Korea remaining as they were before the war, geographically.

What was formed as a result and how did it raise tension?

A

SEATO was created which meant that other communist acts in Asia would be blocked. This angered the USSR and thus created tension between the West and East.

How was the Chinese and Soviet relationship damaged by this act of war?

A

China started to devise plans that would separate them from the USSR because they believed that the USSR wasn’t as willing to defend communist countries against capitalism as China originally believed they would.
