ㄷ , ㅌ, ㅅ ,ㅆ , ㅈ , ㅊ , or ㅎ + ㄴ
When any of the above consonants are followed by ㄴ , the sound changes to ㄴ
듣 는 -> 든 는 있 는 -> 인 는
몇 년 -> 면 년 솟 는 -> 손 는
ㅂ , ㅍ + ㄴ or ㅂ, ㅍ + ㅁ
When ㅂ or ㅍ is followed by ㄴ or ㅁ , the ㅂ or ㅍ changes to an ㅁ sound.
업 는 -> 엄 는 접 는 -> 점 는
밥 먹 다 -> 밤 먹 다
ㄱㅅ
ㄱ only
- When followed by a vowel, ㅅ is pronounced with the vowel
넋 을 = 넉 슬 -> 넉 쓸
ㄴㅈ
ㄴ only
- When followed by a vowel, ㅈ is pronounced with the vowel
앉 아 = 안 자
ㄴ + ㄹ
When ㄴ and ㄹ meet, the ㄴ sounds is replaced by the ㄹ sound
난 로 -> 날 로 신 라 -> 실 라
설 날 -> 설 랄
ㅇ + ㄹ or ㅁ + ㄹ
This combination results in the ㄹ sound being replaced by an ㄴ sound
종 로 -> 정 노
공 로 -> 공 노
함 락 -> 함 낙
ㅌ + 이
Similarly to ㄷ , when ㅌ is a final consonant and is followed by 이 it becomes a ㅊ sound. Again the ㅇ is dropped and ㅊ joins forces with ㅣ so that it pronounced as “치”
ㄱ + ㅁ
This same principle applies to ㄱ + ㅁ as well when ㄱ ends a syllable and the following letter is ㅁ , the ㄱ is pronounced as ㅇ
국 물 -> 궁 물
국 민 -> 궁 민
ㄱ , ㅋ , or ㄲ + ㄴ
Whenever you see a letter combination of ㄱ in the final position of a syllable and it is followed by ㄴ , the ㄱ is pronounced as ㅇ
적 는 -> 정 는
죽 는 -> 중 는
깎 는 -> 깡 는
ㄷ + 이
When ㄷ is the final consonant of a syllable it becomes a ㅈ sound when the following syllable is 이 . The ㅇ is essentially dropped, and the ㄷ which is now said as ㅈ pairs up with ㅣ and is pronounced as “지”
곧 이 -> 고 지
굳 이 -> 구 지
ㅎ + ㅇ
If ㅎ is the final consonant in a syllable and is followed by ㅇ , it is dropped an no sound is made, Simply move on the next syllable.
쌓 은 -> 싸 은
좋 아 -> 조 아
ㅎ + ㄴ
As a final consonant, ㅎ changes to ㄴ when the following syllable being with ㄴ
넣 는 -> 논 는
닿 는 -> 단 는
ㅎ + ㄱ , ㄷ or ㅈ
When ㅎ is the final consonant and is combined with ㄱ , ㄷ ,or ㅈ think of it as helping create an additional puff of air needed to say the aspirated consonants ㅋ , ㅌ, or ㅊ
놓 고 -> 노 코
좋 다 -> 조 타
그 렇 지 -> 그 러 치
ㄹㄱ
When followed by a vowel, ㄱ is pronounced with the vowel
읽 을 -> 일 글
When not followed by a vowel, sounds is ㄱ
읽 다 = 익 다 -> 익 따 읽 는 = 익 는 -> 잉 는
Exceptions: 읽 고 = 일 고 -> 일 꼬
ㄷ + 히
This combination is exactly like ㅌ + 이 The ㄷ , when followed by , transforms to a ㅊ sound this time, the ㅎ is dropped and ㅊ is united with ㅣ so that it is pronounced as “치”
닫 히 -> 다 치
묻 히 -> 무 치
