The Kokoda Track marks the course of one of the most important battles for Australians in WWII.

What was the campaign for?
The campaign was to defend Port Moresby, delay the IJA advance until additional Allied forces could come, and defeat the IJA forces in Papua New Guinea.
Why were reserve soldiers sent to fight.
When the Japanese attacked Papua New Guinea, many of the Australian soldiers were off fighting the war in Europe, so the Australian government sent reserve forces to Papua New Guinea.
How many men were sent?
Around 5000 men were shipped off to Port Moresby in December 1941. The men weren’t very trained, they didn’t have any modern equipment and many of them were very young.
How many soldiers died/got injured
More than 600 Australians died in the fighting, and thousands more were injured.
When were trained soldiers sent?
In August 1942, trained soldiers were sent to Port Moresby.
