Endometriosis
Chronic disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus, the endometriium, is found outside the womb.
Chronic Pain
Persistent pain that is an ongoing occurrence

Experienced-Stigma
Actual instances of stigmatization and discrimination due to one’s status as a member of a stigmatized group
Perceived-Stigma
What an individual believes most people think about the stigmatized group in general and how each individual believes society views him or her personally because he or she is a member of the stigmatized group, fear of discimination.
Self-Stigma
Occurs when members of a stigmatized group accept and internalize the negative attitudes and stereotypes towards their group and themselves.
Endometriosis Stigma
Stigma surrounding endometriosis that pertains to fears and occurrences of symptoms being dismissed and trivialized, leading to isolation and lack of social support.

Summary
More recently, stigma has been recognized as a potent contributor to poor mental health in endometriosis patients, but existing research is limited and largely atheoretical.
