Why did it happen?
A
Due to the Philippines plate pushing beneath the Eurasian plate along the destructive fault line that runs beneath Kobe.
The plates then became stuck and pressure built up and released leading to an earthquake.

Environmental- Fires were caused, Liquefaction caused serious damage
Social- 6434 died, 40,000 were injured and more than 102,000 buildings were destroyed.
