NO- a square knot can only be used to tie two lines of equal size together. Using it on lines of different sizes will cause it to roll out (it won’t hold.
What is a disadvantage of a square knot.
A square knot may jam if it is put under a lot of pressure or tension.

A figure eight is typically tied in the end of a line to prevent the line from pulling back through a fitting (block, fairlead, etc.)
