Pathophysiology

A
  1. OA as inflammatory disease (total joint failure with
    inflamm)
  2. OA bc of metabolic disease (body fat releases
    cytokines + adipokines~ joint damage, obesity in OA
    causes high joint load

  • palp tibial and femoral condyles, pat, tibiofemoral joint line
  • knee effusion test (swipe and tap)
  • active knee mvts
  • passive knee mvts (F+E and quad)

Initial Management

A

Optimal tissue loading, manual therapy (massage, mobs~ MWM), gentle exercises for pain relief, taping, exercises to limit strength & fitness decay. NSAIDS good
