Knee and Leg Ligaments Flashcards
Fibrous capsule of knee - Attachments
FROM:
*margins of the femoral condyles
TO:
*the margins of the tibial condyles
Tibial (medial) collateral - Attachments
FROM:
*medial epicondyle of the femur
TO:
*medial condyle & shaft of the tibia
Tibial (medial) collateral - Functions
stabilizes the medial aspect of the joint (prevents abduction of the tibia)
Fibular (lateral) collateral - Attachments
FROM:
*lateral epicondyle of the femur
TO:
*head of the fibula
Fibular (lateral) collateral - Function
stabilizes the lateral aspect of the joint (prevents adduction of the tibia)
Anterior cruciate (L. crux, cross) - Attachments
FROM:
*medial part of the anterior intercondylar area of the tibia
TO:
*posterior part of the medial surface of the lateral condyle of the femur
Anterior cruciate (L. crux, cross) - Functions
prevents posterior displacement of the femur on the tibia and hyperextension of the knee
Posterior cruciate - Attachments
FROM:
*posterior intercondylar area of the tibia
TO:
*lateral surface of the medial condyle of the femur
Posterior cruciate - Functions
prevents the anterior displacement of the femur on the tibia
Menisci (Gr. meniskos, crescent) - Medial Attachments
*anterior & posterior regions of the intercondylar area of the tibia & fibrous capsule at the tibial collateral ligament
Menisci (Gr. meniskos, crescent) - Lateral Attachments
anterior & posterior regions of the intercondylar area of tibia
Patellar ligament - Attachments
FROM:
*apex of the patella
TO:
*tibial tuberosity
Patellar ligament - Function
resists knee flexion
Crural interosseous membrane - Attachments
FROM:
*interosseous border of the tibia
TO:
*interosseous border of the fibula
