➢Diagnosis of Klebsiella

A
  1. Specimen collection: Sputum.
  2. Microscopy:

Gram (-ve) bacilli, capsulated (India ink to view the capsule).

  1. Culture:

● Blood agar : mucoid colonies because of the capsule.

● MacConkey : Pink (very mucoid) colonies (because it’s lactose fermenter). This differentiates it from E.Coli.

  1. Biochemical test:

● Oxidase: (-ve).

● Indole: (-ve).

● Citrate: (+ve). (the only bacteria that’s Citrate (+ve)
