NOTE
The Greek word καθαρισμού (katharismou) is the genitive singular form of the noun καθαρισμός (katharismos), which means “cleansing” or “purification.” The word is derived from the verb καθαρίζω (katharizo), which means “to clean” or “to purify.” The verb καθαρίζω is itself derived from the adjective καθαρός (katharos), which means “clean” or “pure.”
A paring knife is used mainly for fiddly work, such as removing bits of a fruit of vegetable that has gone bad, and so, in Greek, the use of the word ‘καθαρισμού’ makes sense, as cutting off unwanted bits, one ‘purifies’ the fruit or vegetable we cut.
