Institution
A social institution that refers to relations formed between members of society, nature of bonds that exist within society.
Kinship
kinship by blood that is considered as the most basic and general form. It is achieved by birth or blood affinity.
Consanguineal
refers to the biological relationship and origin.
Descent
refers to the line where one’s descent is traced
Lineage
traces descent through a single line of ancestors from either the male or female line.
Unilineal Descent
traces descent through both parents’ ancestors.
Bilateral Descent
refers to the type of relations developed when a marriage occurs.
Affinal kinship
godparenthood, is a ritualized form of forging co-parenthood or family.
Compadrazgo
are those members of the household who are related, to a specific degree, through blood, adoption, or marriage.
Families
an arrangement in which one or more person/s make/s provision for own food or other essentials for living.
Household
is made up of two adults (married couple) and their socially recognized children.
Nuclear family
members go beyond the nuclear family. May include two or more NF and/or other relatives
Extended family
is a blended type of family where parents have children from previous marital relationships who form a new family unit.
Reconstituted family
exists when two or more individuals who are related within the second degree of consanguinity hold elected government positions.
