What are social aggregates?
People that happen to be together in a particular place, but do not significantly interact or identify with one another
ex. watching cinema, people at a concert
What are social categories?
People who share common characteristics but do not necessarily interact or identify with one another
ex. gender, LGBTQIA+
What is a social group?
People who regularly interact with one another on the basis of shared expectations concerning behaviour and who share a sense of common identity
ex. family, political parties, class groups
What are the types of social groups?
- primary group
- secondary group
- reference group
What is a primary group?
First person you interact with, typically small social group whose members share close, personal relationships
ex. families, childhood friends
What is a secondary group?
Can be small or large, mostly impersonal and usually short-term
ex. political parties, schoolmates, doctor-patient
What if a reference group?
Group we compare ourselves with, “identity association group”
ex. parents, siblings, teachers, peers
What is a network?
It is formed by the presence of social linkage invoked and availed by an individual for some personal, economic, religious, or political reasons
What is a groupthink?
A process in which the member/s of the group do not follow group consensus

It is a social institution that refers to relations formed between members of the society

It is descent traced by most societies through a single line of ancestors from either the male or female line

It is when you trace your origins through the male line

It is when you trace your origins through the female line

It is the study of both parents’ ancestors, this is called nonunilineal or cognatic descent principle
