Kingdoms Flashcards
What are the six kingdoms
Eubacteria , archaea, animals, plants, fungi, Protista
Archaea under archaea, eubacteria under eubacteria, animals plants fungi Protista under eukarya
Characteristics and type for plants
Eukaryote
Multi cellular
Have chloroplasts so autotrophic
Asexual
Morphology of plants
Root systems: monocot- branching roots
Dicot- one main root
Shoot systems: herbaceous stem
Woody stem
Groups in kingdom plantae
Bryophytes- non vascular (mosses) simplest land plants, spores, low, wet places
Seedless vascular plants- spores (ferns) vascular tissue allows to grow tall
Gymnosperms seed producing vascular- seeds not covered by ovary cedar
Angiosperms (flowering plants) - seeds protected by ovary, 90% plants this type
Characteristics and type for animals
Eukaryotic Multicellular Heterotrophic Cells have no cell walls or chloroplasts Most reproduce sexually Over 1 billion species exist
Morphology of animals
Invertebrates without backbones
Vertebrates have backbones
What is radial symmetry
Bodies of animals arranged around a central axis
What is bilateral symmetry
Right and left side of body mirror each other
What are protosomes
Animals w/ bilateral symmetry develop a mouth before an anus
What are deuterosomes
Animals w/ bilateral symmetry that develop the anus before the mouth
Characteristics and type for fungi
Eukaryotic Most multicellular Cell wall composed of chitin Cells have no chloroplast Heterotrophs Some sexual some asexual
What are fungal bodies made up of
Hyphae -tiny threads of cytoplasm surrounded by plasma membrane and covered by the cell wall
Why are fungi important in the ecosystem
Decomposers, consist of yeast, cam be eaten
Characteristics and type for Protists
Eukaryotic
Mostly unicellular
Reproduce asexually (binary fission) or sexual exchange of DNA
Miscellaneous group
3 main groups of kingdom Protista
Plant like , animal like, fungi like
