Common features protist share are what?
They are eukaryotic have membrane bound organelles And all display a contractile vacuole.
Domain eukarya show greatest diversityy why?
They can be unicellular, multicellular and some cases both some are heterotrophic.
Ex. Protozoans & slime mold
And some are autotrophic

Animal like protists called protozoans, unicellular, all heterotrophic and most have structure movement
How do protist move?
Via long whiplike projections of the cell called flagella and other may have tiny hairs called cilia that beat in unison to swim through the water, others change the shape of their cell to a blob and move via cytoplasmic streaming.

Commonly called algae, unicellular weigh all the way up to giant 100m long kelps. Autotrophic use light as energy photosynthesis.

Can be all different colors according to pigment the posses. Different pigments are more efficient at some depth at capturing light energy.

Euglenoids are photosynthetic in light and heterotrophic in dark

Form a feeding stage where many cells fuse together And function as large cell many nuclei
Cellular slime molds
Normally act as solitary cells but when food is scarce they form multicellular feeding organism called pseudo plasmodium.

Include mold,rust, smuts attack crops and cause millions of dollars each year

What did the phytophthora infestans do?
In 1845 in Ireland they attacked the potato crop, forced to give surviving crop to Britain causing immigrants to move over to united states. Large majority of Boston Irish can trace history back to potato famine
