Kinetics, Equilibria and Acids, Bases and Buffers Flashcards
Rate of reaction
The change in concentration of reactants or products, with unit time.
Bronsted-Lowry acid
Proton donor
Bronsted-Lowry base
Proton acceptor
Strong acid
One which fully dissociates in solution.
Weak acid
One which partially dissociates in solution.
Equivalence point
The point in a titration at which the reaction is just complete.
End point
The point in a titration when the volume of reactant added just causes the colour of the indicator to change.
Indicator
Substance that changes colour according to the hydrogen ion concentration of the solution to which it is added.
Half equivalence
The point at which half the volume of a strong base is needed to neutralise a weak acid.
Buffer solution
One which resists small changes in PH when small amounts of acid or alkali are added to it.
