Kinetic Theory Flashcards
Properties of Solids
Can’t flow, fixed shape, fixed volume, high density.
What are the 3 states of matter?
Solid, Liquid and Gas
Property of Liquids
Can flow, takes shape of container, fixed volume, high density.
Property of Gases
Can flow, takes shape of container (fills whole container), volume can change (to fill container), low density.
Solid particles are:
Closely packed, ordered, vibrate about fixed positions, strong forces between them.
Liquid particles are:
Closely packed, not ordered, free to move about, strong forces between them.
Gas particles are:
Very far apart, not ordered, move rapidly and randomly, weak forces between them.
What is Diffusion?
The spreading out of molecules from an area of high concentration to low concentration due to the random motion of the molecules.
Name 5 changes of state.
Sublimation, freezing, melting, condensing, boiling.
What molecules have the most and least energy?
Solids have the least, gases have the most.
