Kinematics, Horizontal Motion Flashcards
Vector
A physical quantity that has both magnitude(size) and direction.
Scalar
A physical quantity that has magnitude(size) only.
Resultant vector
The single vector that which has the same effect as the original vectors acting together.
Distance
Length of path traveled.
Position
Define position relative to a reference point and understand that position can be positive or negative. Know that position is a vector quantity that points from the reference point as the origin.
Displacement
A change in position.
Speed
The rate of change of distance and know that speed is a scalar quantity.
Velocity
The rate of change of position or rate of displacement and know velocity is a vector quantity.
Average velocity
The velocity of an object over a time interval.
Instantaneous velocity
The velocity of an object at a specific point in time.
Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity.
