Kinematics Flashcards
What does the gradient of a displacement time graph show?
gradient shows velocity, when gradient is zero, object is stationary.
What does a velocity time graph show?
gradient shows acceleration (when gradient is zero acceleration is zero), area under the graph shows the displacement.
What is instantaneous velocity?
Rate of change of velocity.
Why would a hammer and a feather, released together, hit the floor at the same time? (Assume no air resistance)
Hammer weighs more than a feather, so force from gravity is larger, however inertia is larger, so acceleration is slower.
What is inertia?
The reluuctantce of an object to get moving
What is terminal velocity?
The constant maximum velocity of an object when the resistive forces are equal and opposite to the accelerating force.
What is the relationship between speed and drag?
Drag is proportional to speed^2
