Basic physics Flashcards
What are the 6 base units?
Kilograms (Kg), Meter (M), Seconds (s), Ampere (A), Kelvin (K), Moles (mol)
What is homogeneity of units?
Two quantites which can be expressed in the same base units
What is the difference between scalar and vector quantities?
Scalar - has a magnitude but no direction
Vector - has a magnitude and a direction
What is a moment and what is the principle of moments?
Moment - the turning effect of a force
Principle of moments - for an object in equilibrium the sum of the clockwise moments is equal to the sum of the anticlockwise moments.
What is the centre of gravity of an object?
Point at which the entire weight of an object is considered to act.
What is the centre of mass of an object?
Point through which a single force on the body has no turning effect
