Kinematics Flashcards
What are 3 examples of scalar and vector quantities?
Scalar: Mass, Time, Distance
Vector: Displacement, Velocity, Accelaration
Define velocity and state its Si unit
Velocity is the rate of change of displacement m/s
How to find velocity?
Displacement/Time Taken
What is the definition of Speed?
Speed is the distance moved per unit time
When does an object no longer possess constant velocity?
When it changes direction without changing its speed, or when it changes speed without direction.
Define acceleration. How do you find acceleration
Acceleration is the rate change of velocity
Acceleration = Change in velocity/time taken
How is velocity increased?
It is when time taken decreases, or when displacement increases
How is velocity decreased?
It is when time taken increases, and displacement decreases
What are 3 scenarios where acceleration occurs?
When an object changes speed
When an object changes direction
When an object changes speed and direction
What is uniform acceleration?
It is when an object experiences the same changes in its velocity for every unit of time is the same
What is the gradient of a distance time graph? What happens when the gradient increases/decreases
Speed
Speed will increase/decrease
What does the gradient of a speed time graph give?
What does the area under the graph give?
acceleration
maximum distance
What does the gradient of a displacement time graph represent?
Gradient gives velocity
What is constant speed
It is the speed of an object that remains the same throughout the entire journey
