Causes - chronic illness, overwork, excessive sexual activity, depletion of body fluids, blood loss, misuse of kd yang tonics
Soreness of lumbar region, weakness of knees
Oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea
Dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus
Premature ejaculations, abnormal frequent erections, increased libido, nocturnal emissions
Five centre heat, dry throat/mouth, insomnia, excessive dreams, malar flush, night sweats
Dry red tongue w/ little/no coat. Cracked/mirror/peeled.
Rapid, thready pulse
Kidney Yin Deficiency
Causes - chronic illness, excessive sexual activity, damp retention, old age
Soreness of back, cold knees, cold uterus, sensation of cold in back, aversion to cold
Prolonged diarrhea, 5 am diarrhea
Infertility, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido
Dizziness, lassitude, pallor or dark face
Pitting edema (below lumbar region), abdominal distention, copious clear urine
Pale, wet, flabby tongue
Deep, weak, slow pulse
Kidney Yang Deficiency
Causes - congenital, poor nutrition, excess sexual activity, prolonged illness, increased # pregnancies
Slow physical/MSK development, late fontanelle closure, weakness of legs, poor intelligence, premature senility
Weak sexual activity (female), oligospermia, infertility, amenorrhea
Tinnitus, deafness, head hair loss, premature greying of hair, loose teeth, poor memory
Small tongue
Thready, weak pulse
Kidney Essence Deficiency
Causes - old age, early lack of development of Kd Qi, excessive sexual activity, prolonged illness
Pale face, frequent dribbling of urine, nocturnal emissions, poor hearing, enuresis, premature ejaculations, sore back and knees, incontinence, clearing leucorrhea, freq clear urine, remarkable nocturne, miscarriages
Pale tongue
Deep, weak pulse
Kidney Qi Insecurity (not firm)
Causes - prolonged cough or asthma, Lung def, Kd damage, chronic disease
SOB on exertion, asthma, swelling of face, rapid and weak breathing, sweating, thin body, difficult inhalation, cold limbs, sore back/knees, cough, cold limbs after sweating
Pale tongue
Tight, deep, weak pulse
Kidney Failing to Receive Qi
Causes - exogenous damp heat invasion, excessive consumption of hot (spicy) greasy foods, pathogenic damp accumulation
Frequent, urgent urination; dark yellow or turbid urine, burning on urination, hematuria, difficult urination
Red, sticky yellow coat (at back)
Rapid and slippery pulse
Damp heat in UB
Causes - pathogenic damp accumulation, exogenous damp cold invasion
Frequent urgent urination, heaviness feeling in hypogastrium/urethra, difficult urination (stopping mid stream), pale turbid urine
White sticky coat (at back)
Slippery, slow, slightly wiry in Chi positions
Damp cold in UB
