Kidney Failure Flashcards
1
Q
What are the causes of kidney failure?
A
- High Blood Pressure
-> Ultrafiltration is already at high blood pressure - Kidney Infection
-> Damage to cell/tissue of kidney - GFR: Glomerular filtrate Rate
-> If low it shows the kidney is damaged
2
Q
What are the effects/problems? - KIDNEY CANNOT FILTRATE
A
- Blood will have increased
- urea
- Ions e.g. Na+/cl-
- can be fatal
3
Q
What are the effects/problems? - KIDNEY CANNOT REABSORB
A
- Blood will have decreased
- urea
- Ions e.g. Na+/cl-
- H20 - osmoregulation
- Fluid build up in tissues
- proteins
- large mo;molecules e.g. proteins + RBCs can be forced into the filtrate
- can cause anemia
- can be fatal
