Kidney Flashcards
KI-1
Yong Quan - Bubbling Spring
In a depression appearing on the sole when the foot is in plantar flexion, approximately at the junction of the anterior and middle third of the sole (as measured from the base of the second toe to the back of the heel), between the second and third metatarsal.
Point of entry
Jing Well Point
Wood Point therefore Sedation (Son) Point
Point of Departure of the Kidney Tendino Muscular meridian.
Receives Qi from the BL
Has an influence on the Kidney Divergent Meridian.
Root of Shao Yin
Tonifies Yin
Sends Yin Qi up and draws Yang Qi down.
KI-2
Ran Gu - Blazing Valley
On the medial border of the foot, in a depression distal and inferior to the navicular tuberosity, where the skin changes texture. (Hint: Find by running down the tibia, in front of the ankle and you will land on the navicular tuberosity - in the centre of the arch of the foot)
Ying Spring Point
Fire Point
Point of Departure of Yin Qiao Mai
Sends a vessel to Sp-8 (Great Compendium)
Tonifies KI-Yang
KI-3
Tai Xi - Great/ Supreme Ravine
In a depression midway between the tip of the medial malleolus and the tendo-calcaneus, level with the tip of the medial malleolus. (Hint: Deepest part of the valley, have the foot flexed to find the point then let it relax)
Shu Stream
Earth Point
Yuan-Source Point therefore receives a vessel from BL-58
Tonifies KI Yin.
KI-4
Da Zhong - Great/Big Bell
Approximately 0.5 cun posterior to the midpoint of the line drawn between KI-3 and KI-5, on the anterior border of the tendo calcaneus. (Hint: Where the tendon meets the calcaneus, there is a dip just in front of the tendon)
Luo Point therefore sends a vessel to BL-64 (a vessel follows the Kidney meridian to a point below the PC zang and then goes and spreads into the lumbar vertebrae)
Works on the Ancestral Qi of the KI. (vB)
KI-5
Shui Quan - Water Spring
1 cun directly below KI-3, in a depression anterior and superior to the medial side of the tuberosity of the calcaneus. (Alternative location: In a depression midway between the tip of the medial malleolus and the heel - should feel a gap)
Xi Cleft Point therefore regulates Qi and Blood in the KI meridian.
KI-6
Zhao Hai - Shining Sea
1 cun below the tip of the medial malleolus in the groove formed by two ligamentous bundles. (Hint: Invert foot this gives space at the point in between the tendons)
Master Point of Yin Qiao Mai
Couple Point of Ren Mai
Tonifies KI Yin
Sends Yin Qi to the eyes
KI-7
Fu Liu - Returning Current
2 cun directly above KI-3, on the anterior border of the tendo-calcaneus. (Hint: Start measuring at the tip of medial malleolus, identify correctly the knee crease - knee slightly bent, lower border of patella, end of popliteal crease, 3 fingers to articulate the joint)
Jing River Point
Metal Point therefore Tonification Point
Tonifies KI Yang
KI-8
Jiao Xin - Exchange Faith
2 cun above KI-3, 0.5 cun anterior to KI-7, posterior to the medial border of the tibia
Xi Cleft Point of Yin Qiao Mai
KI-9
Zhu Bin - Guest House
5 cun above KI-3, on the line joining KI-3 and KI-10. (Hint: Find knee crease and measure from - almost tucked under calf muscle)
First Point of Yin Wei Mai
Affects Yuan Qi
Xi-Cleft Point of Yin Wei Mai
KI-10
Yin Gu - Yin Valley
When the knee is flexed, the point is at the medial end of the knee crease, between the tendons of muscles semimembranosus (smaller and flat and in front of semitendinosus) and semitendinosus (biggest, superficial and behind)
He Sea Point
Water Point therefore Horary Point
From here a small vessel travels to BL-54
BL-54 is the point of Departure of the BL and KI Divergent meridians.
Tonifies KI-Yin (VB)
