Why are keywords important in SEO?

A

Keywords set the foundation for SEO, if you are not ranking for keywords that people are actually searching for then the rest of SEO is meaningless. And is how people will find your content.

Q

Why should you not choose keywords based on just search demand?

A

This alone can be misleading as search doesn’t always mean traffic. For example km to miles, as google has a built-in calculator. So no need to go to a page.

Q

How to determine business potential?

A

A way to do this is to rank keywords between a value of 1 and 3. 3 being the worth the most point and 1 still worth but are worth less. So for example, if you are selling used golf clubs. Keyword “buy used golf clubs” would be people ready to buy and is worth 3. “best golf clubs” is still a good keyword to plug your product and is worth 2. And “what is a handicap in golf” is harder to get to sell your product but is still valuable as it gives valuable information to people that could lead to a purchase and is worth 1. And anything with a rank 0 is not worth ranking for as it does not help your bottom-line like happy Gilmore review is 0.

Q

How to determine if you can match the searcher’s intent?

A

See if you can match searcher intent by looking at the top results for that keyword. For example, if you have a food blog and want to get more visitors to your recipes. If you want to rank for toaster ovens and all the pages for the search term toaster ovens are eCommerce sites to buy toaster ovens you are probably not going to be able to meet the searcher’s intent and not rank high for that keyword.
