Define Trinity:
One God in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)
Define Monotheism:
Belief that there is only one God
Define Consubstantial:
(Jesus is) made of the same substance (as the Father and the Holy Spirit)
Define Doctrine:
a belief held by the Church
Define benevolence:
the belief that God is loving and good
Define omnipotence:
the belief that God is all- powerful
Define omniscience:
complete knowledge of all human actions, past, present, and future
Define Imago Dei:
the belief that humans are made in the image and likeness of God
Define dominion:
the authority to rule over creation
Define stewardship:
the responsibility to love and take care of creation
Define Incarnation:
Incarnation – enfleshment – God taking on human form as Jesus Christ
Define blasphemy:
Blasphemy – being disrespectful about or showing a lack of reverence for God
Define Passion:
Passion- Jesus’ arrest, trial and suffering
Define salvation:
Salvation- the process of being saved from sin and returning to God
Define grace:
Grace- the blessing and mercy of God
Define redemption:
Redemption- the forgiveness of sins through Jesus’ sacrifice; redemption is part of salvation
Define justification:
Justification- the state of being in relationship with by living a good and holy life
Define redemptive efficacy:
Redemptive efficacy- the belief that the Paschal Mystery leads to the salvation of humanity
Define purgatory
a place where the soul is purified before going to Heaven (Catholic Christianity only)
Define Particular Judgment:
the first judgment that comes after death.
Define General/Last judgment:
the final judgment of all mankind (Judgment Day).
