Synagogue
Jewish place of worship, the word has Greek origins, it means assembly or place of assembly.
Orthodox Judaism
Judaism and Jewish communities that try to stick to the law as laid out in the Torah, they do not change or adapt the laws.
Reform Judaism
These communities will adapt the law of the Torah
more to fit with modern society.
Tenakh/Tanakh
Sometimes referred to as the Hebrew bible
containing three key sections; Torah, Nevi’im and Ketuvim.

Promised Land
the land of Canaan which God promised to Abraham and his descendants
Covenant
a solemn promise or agreement
made between two people/groups. A covenant
requires commitments from both sides.
Mount Sinai
The place where Moses received the 10 commandments from
God.
Decalogue
Another name for the 10 commandments, the 10
commandments were a sign of the renewal of the covenant through Moses,
the continuation of the covenant made with Abraham.
Rosh Hashanah
The ‘head of the year’. Jewish new year and festival of repentance.
Sukkot
The feast of tabernacles, Sukkot means tents or shelters
Shavuot
Festival of weeks, originally a wheat harvest festival but now more focused on the delivery of the Torah to Israel.
Simchat Torah
A festival that follows Sukkot and is mostly translated to mean ‘rejoicing the Torah’.
