What are complex sentences
A complex sentence is a main clause and a subordinate clause joined by a connective
Eg
While the wind blew people stayed inside
What is a compound Sentence
A compound sentence is when you join two main clauses with a connective
Eg
I like bananas and he likes to drink water
What is a main clause
A main clause is a clause that contains a subject a verb and an object
That can make sense on its own
Eg
He ate the sandwich
What is a simple sentence
A simple sentence has one clause it only has a verb and a subject
Eg he ran she thought they watched
What is a subordinate clause
A subordinate clause is a clause which needs a main clause to make sense it has a subject and a verb and adds extra information it cant make sense on its own
Eg “Because the ring rolled”
