what is cultural capital?
The relative power or status associated with a particular cultural idea, style, or artifact, and of the people who choose to associate themselves with it.
what is compensatory education?
education that is available to children with disabilities who have been denied free state education.
what is the ethnocentric curriculum?
giving priority to cultures that are taught within school eg, British history is taught in the UK
what is vocational education?
courses that are career suited (usually btecs), eg hair and beauty for hair dressing. health and social care for social workers.
what is cultural deprivation?
when an individual cannot communicate and respond in a socially acceptable context.
what is immediate gratification?
achieving short term aims and wanting rewards straight away.
what is meritocracy?
ruling or influential class of people that are knowledgeable.
what is labelling?
the process of stereotyping someone based on their social groups.
what is material deprivation?
having a limited/limitless access to books, internet, tutors all to aid your educational achievement.
what is deferred gratification?
the ability to resist an immediate reward and wait for a later gain.
