Trade union
An organisation of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests.
Industrialisation
The period of social and economic change that transforms a farming society into an industrial one.
Socialism
When the government owns and controls factories and distribution of goods.
Monarchy
When a king or queen is in charge.
Reichstag
The German Houses of Parliament.
Socialist
Someone who fights for their beliefs and power for the people.
Abdicate
Giving up throne.
Revolution
An extreme and violent way to take over the government by force.
Diktat
Dictated peace - forced peace (on Germany: Treaty of Versailles).
Reparations
Compensation that a country (Germany) has to pay to others (e.g. UK and France) for repairs to land etc.
Armistice
An agreement to stop fighting (this happened before ToV).
Right-wing
Belief in having one powerful leader with all of the power.
Left-wing
Belief in letting people have a say and sharing power equally.
Free corps
Ex-soldiers, right-wing extremists, believe in law and order.
Communist
Believe power and property should be shared equally between everyone - extreme left-wing.
Spartacus league
A political party, named after Spartacus - a Greek God.
Treaty of Versailles
An agreement between winning countries on what would happen to Germany after World War I.
Hyperinflation
Money losing its value very quickly.
Kapp putsch
The rebellion led by Wolfgang Kapp, from a right-wing party.
Nationalist
Someone who is proud about their country and strongly believes in it.
Rentenmark
The new currency brought in to Germany by Stresseman to solve the problem of hyperinflation.
League of Nations
An international organisation aimed a peacekeeping - Germany was not allowed in.
Munich Putsch
Rebellion led by Nazi party in 1924 - was unsuccessful.
Propaganda
Using different methods of persuasion to persuade people to do something.
