What is the albedo effect?
Places where the ground is white reflect the suns rays and the land is not able to absorb heat as the rays are reflected back into space
What are mid-latitudes?
Places located between high latitude (70 degrees) and low latitude (20 degrees)
What are the general characteristics of tundra climates?
Short season of growth
Simple vegetation
Strong winds
Bare landscapes
What is meant by the phrase isotherm?
Places on the map that have the same temps and joined together to form patterns
What is permafrost?
Permanently frozen ground where soil temps are below 0 degrees
What is wind chill?
Extreme cold accompanied by high wind velocities
What is solar radiation?
Energy that enters the atmosphere as solar radiation is either absorbed or reflected
