Synagogue
Jewish place of worship or ‘house of assembly’; building for Jewish public prayer, study and assembly
Shekhinah
The place where God’s presence rests and can be felt. It is often used to refer to the feminine characteristics of God
Shabbat
Day of spiritual renewal and rest. Beginning at sunset on Friday and closing at nightfall on Saturday
Kosher
Means ‘fit’ or ‘proper’. Foods that are permitted to be eaten according to Leviticus Chapter 11.
Torah
The five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy).
Mitzvot
It is often used to refer to duties (such as the 613 in the Torah) and good deeds.
Messiah
The anointed one Jews believe will bring in a new era or age for humankind.
Covenant
A promise or agreement between God and his people. Covenants were made between God with Noah, Abraham and Moses
Orthodox Jew
Observant Jews who follow the Torah exactly
Reformed Jews
Liberal Jews who interpret the Torah for modern society

Change his name from Abram to Abraham
Circumcise every baby boy when he is eight days old
Absolutism
the belief that there are certain actions that are always right or always wrong
Eucharist
Meaning “thankgiving”. The name Catholics use to describe the rite where the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus and is received by the people
Evangelisation
the act of spreading the “good news” which we translate as Gospel.
Relativism
The belief that there is no moral law and that rules that govern what is right and wrong
