Key Terms Flashcards
What is Accuracy
How close the measured values are from the true values.
What is Activation Energy
The energy required to catalyse a reaction.
What is an Aliquot
A sample taken for chemical analysis or other treatment.
What is a Burette
Glass tube with a tap at one end, for delivering known volumes of a liquid, especially in titrations.
What is combustion
Usually produces CO2 and H20. The process of burning something.
What are concordant titres
The volume of two or more titres that are similar in quantity (less than a 0.10 mL difference between each other)
What is a condensation reaction
A reaction which uses a peptide bond to join 2 monomers, while also producing H20
What is a Dipole-Dipole interaction
Dipole-dipole forces are attractive forces between the positive end of one polar molecule and the negative end of another polar molecule.
What are dispersion forces
A type of force acting between atoms and molecules that are normally electrically symmetric.
What is an electrolyte
Compound which produces ions when dissolved in a solution such as water
What is an end point
The point during a titration when an indicator shows that the amount of reactant necessary for a complete reaction has been added to a solution.
What is an endothermic reaction
When energy is taken in from the surroundings, this is called an endothermic reaction and the temperature of the surroundings decreases.
What is an exothermic reaction
A chemical reaction that involves the release of energy in the form of heat or light
What is the flash point chemistry
The lowest temperature at which a liquid (usually a petroleum product) will form a vapour in the air near its surface that will “flash,” or briefly ignite.
What is a half equation
It shows you what happens at one of the electrodes during electrolysis
