Key ID for Granulocyte Series Flashcards
What are the key IDs for Myeloblasts?
Myeloblasts:
• Large cell, 15-20u
• Round to oval nucleus
• High nucleus/cytoplasm ratio (4:1)
• Basophilic cytoplasm
• Absent or few granules
• Fine chromatin with or without nucleoli
What are the key IDs of a promyelocyte?
Promyelocyte
• Presence of primary granules (red to purple) overlying the nucleus.
• No secondary granules.
• Round to oval nucleus.
• Likely larger than myeloblast
What are the key IDs for a myelocyte?
Myelocyte
• Appearance of secondary granules.
• Smaller round to oval nucleus (may have one flattened side) & smaller nucleus to cytoplasm (2:1) ratio.
• Nucleoli no longer visible.
• Slight or no basophilia
What are the key IDs for a metamyelocyte?
Metamyelocyte:
• Indented, kidney shaped nucleus.
• Indentation of nucleus <50% of the width of the nucleus.
What are the key IDs for a band neutrophil?
Band Neutrophil:
• Indentation of nucleus >50% the width of the nucleus.
• Chromatin must be visible in thinnest section of nucleus.
What are the key IDs for a segmented neutrophil?
Segmented Neutrophil:
Nucleus has 2-5 lobes connected by a thin filament without visible chromatin.
