Basically it was Czechoslovakia’s attempt to distance itself from the Soviet Union in August 1968
•attempted to assure Moscow of their loyalty due to the Hungarian disaster of 1956 didn’t work
•Brezhnev was in charge
•Brezhnev Doctrine was created to justify their invasion

25 April 1950 Truman approved NSC 68 in light of China going Communist and USSR going nuclear
•It was a briefing paper created by the state department and the defines department on USSR and the likelihood of action
•Impacted US economic and military spending

June 1967 - 5th - 10th
•War was against Syria, Jordan and Egypt
•Rather than wait to be attacked
•Israel launched a hugely successful military campaign
•Captured many strategic areas leading to domestic problems later

•demonstrated superiority technology
•clear advantage in arms race
•Gave Khrushchev more political might in Soviet Union and against US
•New phase in the arms race - same race
