What is the EYFS Framework?
It emphasises the importance of play during learning activities.
It is important that early year professionals support children’s early experiences through play.
They link this to mathematical concepts: NUMBERS, MEASUREMENT, SHAPE, SPACE, PATTERN RECOGNITION
These concepts need to be related to practical activities as much as possible to make them meaningful to children.
What is Birth to 5 Matters?
It includes guidance on literacy and numeracy development, along with suggested activities.
Literacy:
Encourages storytelling and roleplay
Providing access to books, rhymes and songs
Supports mark-making and early writing through drawing and play
Numeracy:
Count everyday objects during play
Explore shapes, patterns and measurements in the environment
Use songs, games and practical activities to develop number recognition
What is Development Matters?
It helps educators support children’s learning and development.
It provides guidance on tracking milestones, encouraging learning through play and planning activities based on individual needs.
This helps them to develop key skills, social interaction, physical coordination and early math concepts.
