Wall Poster campaign: Propaganda campaign in Beijing University. Promotes denouncing governments intended victims.

Mao Swims in the Yangtze river to show his strength ready for returning to public life.

1st Huge rally in Tiananmen Square, Led by Lin Biao. Deng + Liu stand behind in regular clothes. Encourage Red Guards to root out the “4 Olds”

President Nixon visits China: Zhou Enlai accomodates. Fixes releationship as have common enemy of Russia. Maintain some hatred due to ideological differences. Reverses cultural revolutionary

Deng Xiaoping rehabilitiated to train Weng Hongwen; Mao’s chosen successor.
1973
Anti-Confucious campagin: Launched by Gang of Four to try to discredit Lin. Purposefully done to target Deng and Zhou (centerists/rightists). Mao initially supported this movement.

Zhou Enlai dies
1976 Jan
Tiananmen Square Incident: As a result of Zhou’s death, his funeral turns into a demonstration for his moderate policies. This once again purged Deng out of his position.

Mao Zedong Dies: Hua Guofeng takes over by removing the Gang of Four with his military alliances.
