Key Concepts Flashcards
What are ontogenetic (ontogeny) differences?
alterations that occur during the development of an individual from the immature to the mature biological state.
What are Phylogenetic (phylogeny) differences?
differences between biologically mature individuals
What is Developmental Symmorphosis?
In any physiologic system the functional the capacity of no single component should exceed that of any other part of the system
What is an Allometric scaling?
The approach for studying relationships between body size and shape, anatomy or function
What is dimensional Theory?
It assumes similar geometry between people, linear dimensions should relate to body mass by the exponent of 0.33, areas are 0.67
Equations to describe functional development are used…
In children relative to body size
What differences are experienced in growing children compared to adults?
There is a relationship different between size and function between adults and children who vary in size
Growth capacity in children is experienced how?
One component should not exceed others during physiological systems during child growth
Eugeric aging is?
True aging, age-related changes that will happen to everyone, inevitably.
Pathogeric aging is?
pathological aging, not a predestined part of aging.
What are examples of eugeric aging?
Slowed movements, impaired hearing and reduced ability to adapt to stress.
How does aging impact homeostatic processes?
It can increase the time taken to respond and equilibriate.
