Key Area 4:Genetic information Flashcards
Coat colour in hamsters is and inherited characteristic. Brown coat colour is dominant to white. Two hamsters of true breeding produced offspring.
Write the genotype for each parent?
Parent 1 = BB
Parent 2 = ww
Percentage of offspring with brown coats?
100% because it dominant
Percentage of offspring with white coats?
0% because the brown beats the white cause browns dominant and white isn’t
What is meant by variation?
Variation is the difference between members of species
What is phenotype?
Phenotype is the physical appearance of an individual
What is genotype?
Genotype is the genes and organism has for a particular characteristic
What is my phenotype?
For example eyes, I have Green eyes
What is my genotype for my eyes?
It would be gg because I got green eyes and there small letters cause there not as common as brown
How do you write the genotype of two dominant genes?
You would use two big letter for example my genotype for my eyes if they were dominant they would be GG
How would you write the genotype if I had one dominant and one recessive gene?
Gg cause big G is the dominant cause it’s a big letter and the small g is the recessive cause it’s a small letter
How would you write the genotype for two recessive genes?
gg
