General Anesthetic. Induction Agent
Ketamine Action
Acts on the limbic system and cortex to block afferent transmission of impulses associated with pain perception. Produces short acting amnesia without muscle relaxation.
Ketamine Adult Dose
Behavioral Emergency: 2 mg/kg IV/IO No repeat dose.
Behavioral Emergency: 2 - 4 mg/kg IM. No repeat dose.
Pain Management: 0.2 mg/kg IV/IO/IN/IM. No repeat dose. Avoid in chest pain/ACS/STEMI
Ventilation Managment - Induction: 2 mg/kg IV/IO No repeat dose
Ventilation Managment - Induction: 4 mg IM No repeat dose
Ventilation Managment - Sedation: 2 mg/kg IV/IO No repeat dose
Ventilation Management - Sedation: 4 mg/kg IM No repeat dose
Electrical Cardioversion: 0.2 mg/kg IV/IO/IN/IM Given in addition to sedation
Transcutaneous Pacing: 0.2 mg/kg IV/IO/IN/IM Given in addition to sedation
