Adenosine Flashcards
Adenosine Brand Name
Adenocard
Adenosine Class
Antiarrhythmic
Adenosine Action
Slows conductions through the AV node and can interrupt re-entry pathways. Slows heart rate by acting directly on the sinus pacemaker cells by slowing impulse formation.
Adenosine Adult Dose
Tachycardia Stable: 6mg rapid push Repeat 12mg rapid push
Tachycardia Unstable: 12mg rapid push
Adenosine Pediatric Dose
Tachycardia Stable: 0.1 mg/kg rapid push (Do not exceed 6mg) Repeat 0.2 mg/kg rapid push (Do not exceed 12 mg)
Tachycardia Unstable: 0.2 mg/kg rapid push (Do not exceed 12mg)
Adenosine Indications
SVT: Caused by abnormal electrical pathways in the heart, electrolyte imbalances, or certain medications
PSVT: Caused by re-entry loop, where an electrical signal gets trapped in a small part of the heart and continues to fire rapidly
Adenosine Contraindications
2nd or 3rd degree AV blocks or sick sinus syndrome (unless PT with functional artificial pacemaker). A-flutter. A-fib
Adenosine Adverse Reactions
Flushing. Headache. Sweating. Palpitations.
Adenosine Onset/Duration
Onset: Immediate
Duration: 10 minutes
