What are sources of work?
Recycling
Repairing/selling plastic washing up bowls, flip flops, old radios
What is life like for the children?
Eat once a day at 5pm when they get home
Partial education as interrupted by family chores - fetching water, field working, child mining, limited book/pen access
What do children have to do to get water?
Pump water from boreholes into yellow plastic jerry cans carrying 5-10 litres and walk several km home
What are the issues with water sources?
Most polluted/contaminated - causing disease and death in children
What is responsible for almost a quarter of the deaths?
Malaria
Why is malaria such a large problem?
No access to good mosquito nets, drugs to treat, disinfectant
Why has the health centre’s operating theatre never been used?
No running water or electricity there.
