Both are the study and records of the past. Uses research and material evidence of the past. (Documents and Artifacts)
What is their difference in etymology?
History is from the word “historia” meaning inquiry in Greek while Kasaysayan is from the word “saysay” which means kahulugan, kabuluhan, at katuturan.
What is their difference in cultural connotation?
History is usually written in the Western context, kasaysayan is written in the Filipino context.
Where is history rooted in?
Traditional positivism or German “no document, no history”.
What is their difference in scope and objective?
History is broad and objective, anything that took place in the past while kasaysayan is subjective and selective, studying only those culturally and morally significant.
What is their difference in passing down?
History is written while kasaysayan is usually oral.
What are the three elements of history?
Tao, Lugar, at Petsa.
What is the Tao element?
People play the most decisive role in history (pinakamapagpasyang papel).
What is the lugar element?
It is the stage where events take place.
What is the petsa element?
It marks when these events take place. It measures.
Why study kasaysayan?
To make sense of the present, to prepare for the future, to learn from the past, to bring honor and pride to own identity, and to promote healing and peace.
