Kant's response to Descartes. Flashcards
Analytical v synthetic statements.
Analytical: Logically true eg a triangle has 3 sides. Nothing new is gained from the statement.
Synthetic: Not always true and can be flawed eg my car is blue.
God’s existence has to be proven synthetically through observation.
100 thalers.
An imaginary 100 thalers have the same value as 100 real thalers. If someone says they have 100 in their pocket, it can not be reasoned that it is true. There needs to be a posteriori knowledge to prove this.
Apodictic certainty
There is no undeniable certainty of God’s existence- it is just a matter of faith.
IF.
If God exists, he has aseity. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t.
Body apparatus.
Humans are limited by their senses.
Existence is not a predicate.
Existence adds nothing to the description of a thing, including God- it does not describe him any further.
