What happened to Kamikaze pilots in WW2
During WW2, Japanese kamikaze pilots took planes that were filled with explosives and flew them into military targets like ships. Suicide mission.
How did the military get people to do Kamikaze missions?
Very well trained pilots did volunteer to die however, towards the end of the war the military had to start recruiting people and then they would shun (avoid) people if they refused and call them cowards.
What was Japanese culture like? (Kamikaze)
Japanese Culture was very honour based so people thought it was better to die for your country then have that shame come on yourself and your family.
What collection is Kamikaze from?
This poem is from a collection called the ‘Invention of Fireworks’ which are basically poems about the relationship between mankind and nature so this poem looks at how humans find comfort in nature, like when he’s looking out at the water and the fish and everything.
