A nameless women’s father left on a Kamikaze mission when she was a girl, but he turned around and returned home
The woman explains why he may have returned, describing his childhood
When he returned, no one spoke to him again, not even his wife or children
What is the form of the poem?
No set rhyme scheme, and written in 7, 6 line stanzas
What was society like in post war Japan?
Extremely rigid. Shame played a big role in social interaction, and so pilots who returned form a Kamikaze mission, were ignored and ostracised (excluded from a society or group)
