Kamikaze Flashcards
What do kamikaze pilots do and why called kamikaze WW2
Flew planes with explosives as a suicide missions into ships . Named after a typhoon that wiped enemy ships in 13th century , nature is true source of power. They are patriotic and would rather fighting for country than die coward
Kamikaze structure
Tightly controlled stanza length of 6 lines showing order and obedience expected of soldier. Structure is juxtaposed by free verse and enjabment showing attemps of freedom representing fathers own desires to pursue the beauty of life, last word is “die” inevitable fate, soldier was going to die either way, patriotism denies humanity the enjoyment of nature . Dead already by coming back
Shift in perspective
Shifts from 3rd perspective to first “was no longer the father we loved” shoes impact war had on her and she deserves personal moment and memory therfore a personal perspective
Returns to 3rd person” he must have wondered which had been the better way to die”. Detached tone signifies she detached from father or from culture which forced him to die
“A shaven head full of powerfull incantations”
Prayers so that Pilot dies in purity however could show spell of patriotism and propoganda causing him to not make his own decision of wanting to live as we can see “enbarked” which is normally used for a ship. Role as fisherman , he is uncertain about killing men at sea
“Bunting” and “huge flag waved”“in a figure of eight”
Celebration of their death. Kamikaze pilots wrote letters to family that they will die with a smile on their face, bring honour to community
Represent flag of japan and nobility but also the waving of surrender. Represents infinity and that Japan will always be victorious however could represent nature will outlast man and humanity. Nature is more powerfull
“A tuna ,the dark prince,muscular,dangerous.”
“Prince”resembles the emperor and the fact he is dangerous is because hes sending all these young men out to die. However a kamikaze pilot the epitome of bravoury is not as dangerous as the fish. Fish is deserving of respect like a soldier as it resembles nature
Sounscape
“Father, embarked at” Assonance of a shows pain but sibilance of s shows peaceful as samuries . Shows his head
Fricative of “full of powerful incarnations”
Swearing agression
