First 5 stanzas is one sentence which covers the account of the pilots flight as the pilots daughter imagines it. End of the sentence represents the plane landing and the final stanzas deal with the fallout of the pilots actions

The way he’s treated when he returns to his family is ironic because they act as if he’s dead - society
